I’ve just returned from time away, a respite on Plum Island, MA to be exact that I’d been planning for several months. I wake up at 2:31AM, and for a hazy moment, am not sure where I am, my body and spirit thinking I’m in the soft bed @blueinnonthebeach, my mind wanting to believe though it knew differently. I lie still hearing the faux sound of the ocean in the passing cars outside my window missing the authentic sound of ocean waves and silently repeat to myself, click your Vans darlin’ and you can go back....
Eventually, I go back to sleep waking late at 8:00 to begin my meditation by reflecting on my time in New England, wondering what I gained from this journey. I think about the many characters the ocean displayed not just from day to day, but from hour to hour, moment to moment. From the safety of the deck, I had watched the wild fury of storm waves towering far over my head the day I arrived, stepped out onto the sand the next as the waves softly turned in a roll from right to left across the cloudy horizon; two hours later, the whipping of surf way out in the ocean sprayed waters up towards the heavens under a blinding sunshine, the next morning, tiny ripples licked the shore leaving small foam bubbles behind. Never the same in sound, size, color and form, the power of the ocean never failed to gift me with wondrous awe sometimes for hours. Remembering my watch of the water that spread out before me everyday while away, I heard my spirit voice speaking these words…
as I look out at infinity, I am reminded that no matter the weather, the possibilities are endless…no matter how agitated and loud the rising waves are today, with every tomorrow, they will look, sound and feel totally different.
A life metaphor to contemplate, so…
