There are moments and things that I did not or could not capture on film while in Egypt like the fact that the weekend starts on Thursday evening evidenced by overwhelmingly crazy traffic. Unfortunately, the Thursday we flew from Aswan back to Cairo, it was almost dark as we road into a sandstorm, tree limbs forced to cater to the whims of the wind, sand swirling and whipping about making it impossible to take photos. We were forced to stay in the hotel our first night back in the city where we captured an Egyptian wedding in progress…
Thought I had seen some wild traffic but nothing was like the orchestrated chaos that is Cairo at any hour so it seemed. Headlights only used to signal that I’m about to cut you off so get out of the way, not very many traffic lights, no clear lane delineation as people of all ages, animals, cars, family buses, tour buses, etc., successfully negotiated their way to destinations unknown…I forgot to ask about traffic fatalities, I know was not about to cross the street as the dance steps were way too intricate for me to master…
Fascinated that so many of the temples and sites we visited looked over or sat right in the middle of a neighborhood; one could stand on their balcony, hang the laundry over the side, and gaze down into a tomb…
Was curious about random out of control wild fires in fields and along the Nile but found out that it was the controlled burning of sugar cane…
Botanical garden was a lush, lovely oasis across from the rising desert sands that led to a Nubian village in one direction ...
and to who knows where in the other…
keep your peepers open!®
