temple tours

We toured more temples and places in ten days than some groups do in fourteen as we made our way through Egypt. Talk about creatures stirring, it felt like we made more stops than Santa! Each morning when the wake-up call came even the one at 1:00AM, I wasn’t always eager to stir, but each time that phone rang, I felt more excited than a kid at Christmas. I could barely wait to see what the day would bring.

From the moment I got on the airplane, each of my five senses was in play. I wanted to record everything in order to be able to take friends and family on a mini-excursion once I got back home. Little did I know that the visual stimulation would be overwhelming! There was so much to take in that more often than not, made it extremely difficult for me to focus in on what the tour guide was saying (thankfully, there was a book I was able to purchase so I could quietly read for the historical background about each site we visited). And now that I am home and have taken several on the journey, the one thing that I will never be able to really convey is the smell of the catacombs or the inner chamber at any temple, you just have to go. But until then…

Colosses of Memnon

Temple of Queen Hatsepsut

Karnak Temple

Temple of Horus

Pyramids & Sphinx

Ruins at Memphis

There is one other thing I still can’t articulate, not sure I ever will find the words and that is when the change came and exactly how it made me different, you just have to see me. Sure, the external transformation was planned, hard to miss if you know me, but the internal, well that was an unexpected present....and it's not even December.
